Editorial policy

Primary sources come first: the Statistics Bureau of Japan, the Geospatial Information Authority, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Immigration Services Agency, the Agency for Cultural Affairs, UNESCO, the Japan Meteorological Agency, prefectural and municipal governments, and the Japan National Tourism Organization. Each page lists its sources in numbered order.

Every page shows when it was first published and when its content last changed. Figures that belong to a reporting period — population, visitor numbers, trade — appear only in the key-facts box, with the period they refer to and the source. Prices, fares, opening hours and timetables are deliberately left out: they change too often to be kept accurate in a reference work, and the official sources are linked instead.

Pages on entry rules, visas, payments and similar topics carry a notice and the date on which the facts were last checked. They summarise the official position and always point to the authority that decides.

Errors are corrected as soon as they are known; a content correction updates the page's 'last updated' date. Corrections can be reported through the contact page.

Editorial content is not paid for. The site is financed by advertising (Google AdSense), which is placed automatically and kept separate from editorial content; advertisers have no influence on what is written.
